GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Firewood was lost in a Grand Island fire Monday afternoon.

Grand Island Fire Department Operations Chief Tim Hiemer said a call for a fire came in just after 3:30 p.m. for a temporary tent structure and bundles of firewood at 321 N Cherokee.

Hiemer said that the people present were bundling wood for retail sale. While they were in the process of applying the shrink wrap, the wood started on fire.

Hiemer told NCN that the inventory was all burned up, but there were no injuries.

The total property loss came to $5,000. The damages were contained to just the tent structure and firewood.

Hiemer said that the fire took about 30 to 40 minutes to extinguish. The firefighters said they had to dig through firewood to extinguish the fire, which took a bit of time.
