Horse racing begins at Fonner Park Saturday

Horse racing is on its way back to Fonner Park, but it’s not just horse racing coming back.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Horse racing is on its way back to Fonner Park, but it’s not just horse racing coming back.

Starting on Saturday, Fonner Park will start a season that promises to last until two weeks after the Kentucky Derby. On Monday, workers were out helping set up the grand stand and the various clubs throughout.

Fonner Park CEO Chris Kotulak told Local4 News there is a lot to be excited about this season, including some unusual animal races.

When asked about the possibility of casino gambling for this racing season, Kotulak said while there is hope for it to start this year.
