Grand Island standout announces commitment to SDSU
A Grand Island standout will be joining several other Nebraskans on the South Dakota State football roster.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A Grand Island standout is headed to an FCS power, it was announced Monday.
Kytan Fyfe, brother of former Husker quarterback Ryker Fyfe, announced his commitment to the South Dakota State football program via Twitter.
Fyfe threw for 1,589 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Islanders this past fall. He also added 752 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, while sneaking in 100 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver. On defense, he recorded 61 tackles. Grand Island finished the season with a 7-4 mark, reaching the Class A state quarterfinals before being eliminated by Bellevue West.
South Dakota State reached the FCS semifinals, falling to Montana State. The Jackrabbits closed the 2021 season with an 11-4 record and a No. 4 national ranking.
A total of 11 Nebraskans were on the Jackrabbits' roster this past season, including Fyfe's former Grand Island teammate Caleb Francl. A sophomore linebacker, Francl played in 13 games last season, recording 24 tackles and one fumble recovery.
