HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - You may have noticed smoke in the sky near Duncan Field on Tuesday. That smoke was from a fire that destroyed a RV.

Hastings Fire and Rescue were called out around 12:52 p.m. to a report of a RV on fire across the tracks from Duncan Field.

Hastings Fire Captain Jason Vorderstrasse said when crews arrived on scene the RV was fully involved. They were able to perform a fire attack and get it put out quickly. He did add that the department was on scene for quite some time, hitting hot spots and conducting the investigation.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental. He said it was likely combustibles were too close to a heater.

The RV was a total loss and a vehicle parked nearby suffered some heat damage.

Vorderstrasse said the RV was being used like a trailer home with people living in it. He said they were not home at the time of the fire.

Nobody was injured.
