Grand Island man convicted of domestic assault

A central Nebraska man is facing prison time for the assault of his wife.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A central Nebraska man is facing prison time for the assault of his wife. 

Thirty-nine-year-old Giannini Cervantes of Grand Island pleaded no contest and was convicted on one count of second-degree domestic assault.

Court records show the woman told authorities Cervantes poured alcohol on her leg, set it on fire and stabbed her. 

The victim was hospitalized for her injuries. 

He's facing a maximum of three years in prison when he's sentenced later this month.
