JANSEN, NE — A southeast Nebraska man is behind bars after fleeing arrest and leading authorities on a 2.5-hour search.
Jefferson County Sheriff Nick Georgi says a deputy tried to stop 46-year-old Trenton Wages of Jansen on a felony arrest warrant around 9:00 Monday night. Georgi says Wages drove away from the deputy to his house on the north side of Jansen and fled on foot into an unharvested cornfield behind the house.
Authorities set up a perimeter and searched the field with K9 units, thermal imaging drones and aircraft. They found him hiding in the field after 2.5 hours of searching. After the arrest, the Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant on his house and found numerous guns, ammunition, narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Wages faces multiple weapons charges in addition to the outstanding warrant.
The Jefferson County Emergency Management Drone Team, Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Beatrice Police Department and Nebraska State Patrol all assisted at the scene.
