Nebraska's Blue Dot: Back to the future?
Wondering how the legislative logjam over the future of Nebraska’s so-called “Blue Dot” ends?
Try this on for size: A back to the future scenario.
With the likelihood that neither the Linehan (State Sen. Lou Ann Linehan) Republican map or the Wayne (State Sen. Justin Wayne) Democratic map can get enough votes to pass, there’s talk of a new map that is aimed at keeping both Sarpy County and Douglas County whole.
Talks here and there find all of Sarpy moving to the First Congressional District and all of Douglas remaining in the Second Congressional District.
Linehan, who heads up the Redistricting Committee, spoke somewhat loosely about this earlier this week on KFAB radio: “Instead of going south from Douglas County you go north,” said Linehan. “District 2 used to include Washington and Burt Counties…so it wouldn’t be like it never happened before.”
The Legislature is expected to take a look at any map changes later this week.
