NE -- A mesonet is a regional weather network -- and Nebraska's is in need of space and volunteers.

The network is located at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where climatologist Martha Shulski said they've been working since 1981.

"It's kind of this complete environmental monitoring program," she said. They've grown from five to 62 stations since 1981. Each measure: soil temperature; precipitation; wind speed; barometric pressure; and more.

Shulski said the state is in need of landowners to volunteer space for their stations in central and northern Nebraska.

She said it could give back to donors in the long run by preventing things like flood damage. Learn more here.
