NORFOLK, Neb. – The Norfolk Police Division reported multiple arrests related to substance abuse and impairment over the weekend.

On Friday afternoon, authorities say a man was reported to be yelling in front of businesses in the 700 block of Norfolk Avenue. Officers say that on the scene, a 60-year-old Norfolk man stated that someone had stolen his bicycle and that he had located it in front of nearby apartments. A Norfolk Police press release states that the man refused to tell the officers who stole his bike, but he did consent to a search. During the search, officers reportedly recovered methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia from him.

The following morning, Norfolk Police were called to the 300 block of Omaha Avenue for a suspicious person. A 47-year-old Norfolk man with a bicycle and several bags was seen entering a storage shed in the area. The caller did not believe that the man was associated with the shed. As officers were responding, they checked with the owner of the shed and learned that no one should be inside the shed. The man was arrested for second degree trespassing. In a subsequent search, officers reportedly recovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

On Sunday afternoon, a Norfolk Police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Norfolk Avenue on a vehicle that did not have a front or rear license plate. The 19-year-old driver and a 33-year-old passenger, both of Beemer, were arrested after officers recovered marijuana, marijuana pipes, grinders, marijuana packing materials, and two glass pipes that tested positive for methamphetamine during a search of the vehicle.

Also on Sunday, a Norfolk Police Officer reported witnessing a vehicle spinning “donuts” in the middle of the intersection of 2nd Street and Norfolk Avenue. The officer initiated a traffic stop and had contact with the driver, a 31-year-old Norfolk man. The officer stated that they could smell alcohol coming from driver and he was requested him to perform field sobriety maneuvers and submit to the preliminary breath test. The results indicated impairment, leading to arrest.
