CHEYENNE COUNTY, NE — The 2021 Cheyenne County Fair and Rodeo got underway Monday night.

Before riders could take the stage for the PRCA/WPRA rodeo, the county crowned its rodeo queen. Leyton senior Ashton Van Anne was coronated in front of the crowd.

She’s excited people got to see her crowning moment because that wouldn’t have been the case last year.

"It is so amazing," Van Anne said. "It was so weird last year only having a few people and only having 4-H shows. It's so good for people to come out and support others."

An avid 4-H’er, Van Anne says she plans to stay involved past her graduation in May.

"I'll still be able to show because I won't be aged out quite yet," Van Anne said. "I'll still have another year or so to show 4-H. I really want to stay involved and help our queen coordinator with our future queens."

Natalie Teppert of Bridgeport is this year's Lady-in-Waiting.

The crowd and rodeo aren’t the only thing back at the Cheyenne County Fair this year. After a year away, a live concert and demolition derby are back on the schedule as well.
