Escaped fugitive caught, receives additional charges

OMAHA, Neb. -- Early Monday morning, police say that officers with the Fugitive Task Force located a suspect entering a residence at 558 S 35th St.
The suspect, 44-year-old John Mays, was wanted for felony domestic violence charges and escape charges out of Lancaster County.
Police say he tried to hide, but he was located with the assistance of an OPD K9.
Mays then fled out of an attic window onto the roof of the residence. Police say that he was talked off the roof by OPD Hostage Negotiators and officers on the scene, along with the assistance of an OFD Ladder Truck.
Police say Mays was taken into custody and was also taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for any possible injuries he could have gotten while breaking out of the attic window.
After further investigation, officials say it was revealed that Mays had assaulted an adult female in the residence with a knife before officers arrived at the residence.
Police say after Mays was cleared by medical professionals, he was booked into Douglas County Corrections for his warrants and for charges of terroristic threats and domestic violence assault.
