KEARNEY, Neb. -- Making a space for students to learn and grow. The University of Nebraska at Kearney is putting a spotlight on the research going on at their greenhouse.

UNK students have been working there since January as part of an undergraduate program with the goal of improving crop yields.

The work is funded by a National Science Foundation grant, and is in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In addition to research, students grow flowers, herbs and vegetables in the greenhouse.

They sold the plants to UNK employees in May, raising more than $2,000.

Half was donated to the on-campus food pantry.
