NORFOLK, Neb. -- A redevelopment project in Norfolk appears to involve the economic development arm of the Winnebago Tribe.

This week, the Norfolk Planning Commission recommended approving a blighted and substandard designation for over 260 acres of land along Highway 275, just west of Norfolk. That designation allows tax increment financing to be used to redevelop the area.

While no developers have been identified, county assessor records show the affected plats of land have multiple owners, including Ho-Chunk, Inc., the Winnebago Tribe's economic development corporation.

News Channel Nebraska reached out to Ho-Chunk, which declined to comment on what plans, if any, they have for the roughly 75 acres of land that sits just northwest of the Divots DeVent Center.

The blighted and substandard recommendation now goes to the Norfolk City Council for approval.
