WAYNE, Neb. - Wayne State rugby will compete in New Orleans for a national championship.

Both the women's and men's rugby teams traveling to Louisiana to play in the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC).

"A little bit strenuous and some hard tackles and running around, so we'll see what happens," said coach Darrin Barner. "It's a three-day event."

It all starts Saturday when the women take on Baldwin Wallace.

"Certainly going to have to strap up our boots pretty tight playing an undefeated team,"

Making it to the CRC is a regular post-season push for the women's team, but sharing the bus with the guys is a first.

"The girls are excited to go and it's our first trip with the boys going because they haven't gone to Nationals in a while so they're extra excited and we've all been working hard," said WSC Junior Captain Isabelle Robinson. "

The whole program making the trip is a tournament rarity. WSC is just one of five schools bringing both squads to compete.

"It's our 20th year of Wayne State rugby," said Barner. "It is two separate teams but it's really not. It's one program, one goal, one mission."

The teams loaded on a bus, leaving Wayne State College around 10:30 a.m.

The women's first game is set for 9:23 a.m Saturday. The men's game is at 12:27 p.m.
