OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marcus Zegarowski matched his career high with 32 points and No. 14 Creighton closed a difficult week off the court with a 93-73 victory over Butler.

The Bluejays won for the first time in three games. They did it without head coach Greg McDermott, who is suspended indefinitely for making racially insensitive remarks to his team following a Feb. 27 loss. Assistant coach Alan Huss served as interim head coach.

Chuck Harris had a career-high 29 points to lead the Bulldogs, and Bryce Golden matched his career best with 19.

Creighton players express hurt over McDermott words in video

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Five Creighton basketball players explained in a short video before the Bluejays' home game against Butler why they were hurt by coach Greg McDermott’s remarks in his locker room talk following a loss last weekend.

McDermott twice used the term “plantation” as part of an analogy urging team unity. The university suspended McDermott indefinitely. Assistant coach Alan Huss was interim head coach for the Butler game.

Shereef Mitchell was one of the five players to speak. In his part of the video, he explained the harsh and dehumanizing conditions slaves endured on plantations.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Josie Filer scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Omaha became the first No. 8 seed to defeat the top seed in the Summit League women’s tournament, shutting down 21st-ranked South Dakota State 52-40.

To get their first-ever win over a ranked team, the Mavericks limited SDSU to 22.4% shooting and forced 20 turnovers, ending the Jackrabbits’ 18-game winning streak. South Dakota State was 6 of 24 from 3-point range, 7 of 34 inside the arc.

The Jackrabbits did fine defensively but the loss of Summit League player of the year Myah Selland, who missed the last three games of the regular season with a leg injury, finally caught up to them. Tylee Irvin and Paiton Burckhard scored 10 points apiece for SDSU.
