Lincoln man sentenced for vandalism to synagogue

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska man who spray-painted swastikas and racial epithets on a Lincoln synagogue was sentenced Friday to a year in jail.

Noah Miller, 22, of Lincoln, apologized to the Jewish community before he was sentenced after pleading no contest to criminal mischief enhanced as a hate crime. He also was sentenced to six months on a drug charge, The Lincoln Journal Star reported.

Members of the South Street Temple discovered the vandalism Jan. 15. Swastikas were painted on the front steps and wooden front door of the synagogue, along with slurs. A door had to be replaced at a cost of $2,333.

Miller said there was no hate behind the vandalism. He claimed he did it for the money after a Jewish man paid him.
