GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Teachers and staff in a central Nebraska school district are moving up the COVID-19 vaccine priority list.

More than 400 Grand Island Public Schools staff members will receive the coronavirus vaccine on Friday at Grand Island Senior High School.

By the end of the day, district officials say that over 55% of GIPS staff who signed up for the voluntary vaccination program will have received at least their first dose of the vaccine.

Nearly 200 staff members will receive their second dose on Friday and another 200-plus staff members will receive their first.
