SIDNEY, NE — The Sidney City Council is hoping to get some answers as to why an intersection in town did not meet the qualifications for a traffic light at Tuesday's meeting.
The engineering firm that conducted the engineering study, M.C. Shaaf and associates will be in attendance for the upcoming meeting. Representatives from the firm could not attend the last meeting due to schedule conflicts, but in a letter, told the council the intersection of Pole Creek Crossing and Ft. Sidney Road did not meet the minimum standards for a traffic light.
The study looked at factors such as traffic over an eight hour period, at peak traffic times, crash history and pedestrian volume to make its decision.
City manager David Scott and multiple members of the city council expressed disappointment at the study's findings.
The city council will also hold a public hearing for the city's proposed one and six-year street improvement plans. They will also decide on a landfill burn permit and a purchase of a half-ton pickup for the wastewater department.
