State trooper calls Monday night's snow storm one of the worst he has seen
Trooper Travis Ahrendt has been working for the Nebraska State Patrol out of Sidney for 10 years and he says Monday night's winter weather ranks in the top five snow storms he's had to deal with.
SIDNEY - Trooper Travis Ahrendt has been working for the Nebraska State Patrol out of Sidney for 10 years and he says Monday night's winter weather ranks in the top five snow storms he's responded to.
He tells News Channel Nebraska that all tow trucks in the area are spoken for because vehicles sliding off roads, including Interstate 80. Emergency officials called in towing assistance from Scottsbluff. Crews have been instructed to rescue patrons, but leave vehicles behind to be towed when the sun comes up on Tuesday.
Ahrendt, who has been on the clock since 2 p.m. Monday and expects to work until 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, was at an accident scene near mile marker 3 on Interstate 80 for several hours Monday evening. He says it took him nearly 90 minutes to travel back to Sidney on Highway 30. The trip normally takes a little over half an hour.
