FAIRBURY, NE — A southeast Nebraska non-profit is getting a boost thanks to local radio stations.

Ol’ Red 99-5 and KWBE donated $2,500 to the Blue Valley Community Action Partnership on Wednesday. The money came from the stations’ Flood Communications CARES Fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation. The funds were raised through public donations in the spring.

Family Development Coordinator Melanie Hooper says BVCA will use the money to help all of its services. She says area residents are especially thankful for the food pantry.

“It’s a huge blessing to them,” Hooper said. “They will tell us that every time they come in and pick up a food box. Especially during this time right now, food is a huge necessity for them and they are very grateful that we have it.”

BVCA serves nine southeast Nebraska counties. In addition to the food pantry, the non-profit also offers emergency help with rent and utility payments, homeless assistance and support for early childhood education.

The radio stations also donated $500 to the Kansas Food Bank.
