NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Platte River Mall is seeing new ownership. Mike Works and his partner Justin Hernandez have a family connection to North Platte and want to bring life to the North Platte Mall and its surrounding area.

“I think North Platte’s already a great market. You’ve got a great hospital system, you’ve got great schools, you’ve got a number of things in town that are available for people to participate in or to go to, obviously movie theater bringing that back would be helpful. So I don’t think we need to change anything. It’s a standard of living thing, right, you just hope that there’s more things to do, more places to shop, more places to eat. And I’m hopeful we’re going to be able to bring all of those things with North Platte,” said Works.

In the coming weeks Works plans to have a discussion with City Council about his plans for housing, business, a movie theater and more to the area.

“I could see grocery being a big use over there. I also could see some office space and even some comfort space in the mall as being excellent uses for the large open spaces we have in there,” said Works.

Works previously revitalized a Walmart in Columbus Nebraska by building a hotel, apartment complex, Freddys, Starbucks and more. He says he is excited to see what they can bring to the mall and the community.

“The retailers that are already there in the mall are a bunch of excellent retailers. There’s some very small town North Platte local people, there’s also the Buckle and more national brands, all of whom want to stay which is wonderful. So we’re gonna find a space for everybody,” said Works.

While many doors are closed at the mall, he hopes that that will change and looks forward to what’s next.
