NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A close family member to a man who was found dead in the NPPD canal near Lake Maloney in June said the death of his loved one is ruled a homicide.
68-year old Nicholas “Nick” Legas was found floating in the canal about four miles west of the lake on June 8. His vehicle was found more than six miles upstream.
An autopsy indicated Legas had no water in his lungs or esophagus, meaning he did not drown. His family member told News 2 Legas suffered blunt force trauma to his head, as well as strangulation.
He said Legas did not deserve to die this way. He could not comment on any further details of the case, as he did not want to put the ongoing investigation in jeopardy.
