Gering Public Library waiving late fees
The Gering Public Library is going fine free in an effort to provide equitable access to everyone, the library announced in a press release Friday.
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The Gering Public Library is going fine free in an effort to provide equitable access to everyone, the library announced in a press release Friday.
Gering Public Library Director Diane Downer said the library had already started waiving fees for overdue items in March, when Covid-19 forced local facilities to shutter, and people still returned their items. “We didn’t have any problems,” Downer said, according to the press release, “[in] the long run, we wanted to remove barriers to providing fair and equitable access to the library.”
Standard due dates for each item remain the same; books check out for two weeks, and movies and magazines for one week. If items aren’t returned within two weeks of their due date, a temporary hold will be placed on the account until the items are returned.
