Douglas County Sheriff announces retirement

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning, 71, has announced his retirement at the end of this year.

OMAHA, Neb. - Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning, 71, has announced his retirement at the end of this year.

Dunning is recommending Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler as a replacement. Dunning has served 26 years as sheriff. His final day will be December 31.

The Douglas County Board will appoint Dunning's replacement, as he is leaving his post with two years left in his current four-year term. The board has 45 days to name a replacement.
