Winter storm watch includes Chappell, Oshkosh and Ogallala

CHAPPELL - Four to seven inches of snow will be possible across a large portion of western and north central Nebraska by Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service office in North Platte. 

The weather service says a a strong upper level trough of low pressure aloft, will deepen over the intermountain west and central plains this weekend. Light snow will develop Saturday night across northern Nebraska, then spread south into the Sandhills and southwestern Nebraska overnight Saturday night into Sunday night.

A winter storm watch is in effect late Saturday night through Monday morning portions of western and north central Nebraska, including Deuel, Garden, Keith, Arthur, Perkins and Chase Counties.

In addition to snow, some gusty winds are possible Sunday, which may lead to areas of blowing snow. By Monday morning, wind chills of zero to 10 below zero will be possible.

Meteorologists say to plan on slippery road conditions. Persons planning travel or those with outdoor interests, should closely monitor the latest forecasts and statements with News Channel Nebraska.
