NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Keith County Attorney’s office is investigating the death of an inmate at the Keith County Jail over the weekend.

Keith County Attorney Randy Fair said 44-year-old James Mawson was booked in the Keith County Jail. He was brought in on a warrant for failure to appear last week in a Keith County case where he faced felong drug charges. Mawson died in a holding cell.

Mawson was also scheduled to appear in Lincoln County Court Monday, before being found dead the night before. Lincoln County was going to issue a warrant for his arrest before learning of his death.

Details of his death were not provided. However, an autopsy is scheduled this week. Mawson was facing several charges, including drug charges, in both Keith and Lincoln County.

He was also facing a carry concealed weapons charge and obstruction of a peace officer charge in Lincoln County.
