Dog Shot, Officers Attacked During Altercation In Pierce
Authorities say a dog was shot during an altercation between a suspect and Pierce Police Officers
PIERCE - A dog is dead after an altercation between a suspect and officers in Pierce County.
Pierce County Attorney Ted Lohrberg said in a statement that officers with the Pierce Police Department were called to a report of a man breaking into houses and pounding on doors in the south Sunset Street area of Pierce on Sept. 29th at 4:30 a.m.
Officials say that officers had contact with 30-year-old Brandon Weihs of Pierce, and his two dogs near Sunset St. and Holmes St. in Pierce.
Lohrberg said that Weihs was seen by officers pounding on vehicles and attempting to get into a home.
Authorities say Weihs was not cooperative with the officer’s commands and was combative.
While officers were attempting to detain Weihs, an officer was attacked by one of Weih’s dogs, and another officer was allegedly assaulted by Weihs.
The dog that attacked the officer was shot and later euthanized.
The investigation is ongoing and law enforcement is still attempting to confirm how many homes were entered by the suspect.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the incident.
