CHADRON - It's not a matter of "if" the Chadron State football will play a season this year, but "when" they will play, according to the team's radio announcer.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced earlier this month schools have the choice to schedule games, opening up the possibility for conference and non-conference games.

Chadron State Play-by-Play Announcer Dave Collins calls the new season, "The Wild West Conference." He says there's nothing official from CSC yet, but he thinks it won't be too long before fans learn when the Eagles will play football.

"Right now, CSC does not have any games officially scheduled, but I will say that in the next couple of weeks, I would not be surprised if we see at least some sort of a schedule come out," Collins said. "Potentially, some fall games for CSC. Spring is also a possibility. I think schools are really just trying to figure out when and where they're going to play, and a lot of it depends on the testing capabilities for the coronavirus."

Chadron State finished 6-5 a season ago.

Collins said the Eagles were forecast to have a lot of talented players coming back, including senior quarterback Dalton Holst. Holst is on the cusp of breaking several passing records at the school.

"I think we're going to be able to score plenty of points and hopefully the defense can slow down enough on the other-side, as well, to have us win a bunch of ballgames this year," Collins said. "I know the fans, the coaches and the players were all excited about the possibility this season of having a very successful year here in Chadron. Whenever we do get to play some games, I know the guys are going to be ready to go and we're going to be really competitive."
