Practices can now begin for non-contact sports including baseball, softball, and volleyball, with games able to begin on June 18th. As of today, non-contact organized sports can begin in the City of Norfolk, as both adult and youth activities will be able to use City facilities for practices.
Bars, bottle clubs, and gentlemen's clubs can reopen as well, but must be limited to 50% of rated occupancy maximum at a time. Six feet must separate different parties, and there can only be a maximum of six individuals in a party.
Gatherings are now limited to the greater of 25 people or 25% or rated occupancy, not to exceed 3,000, for gatherings at the following locations: Indoor or outdoor arenas, stadiums, fairgrounds, festivals, zoos, auditoriums, meeting halls, libraries, and swimming pools.
Gyms, fitness centers, and health clubs are now limited to the greater of 25 people or 50% of rated occupancy, and must ensure a minimum distance of six feet between all patrons. Salons, barber shops, and tattoo parlors are also limited to the same amount, and both workers and patrons are still required to wear masks at all times.
Other easements have taken place in the City of Norfolk, as the majority of park restrooms in the City of reopened. City officials say the restrooms will be cleaned regularly, and COVID-19 signage will be posted at each restroom as well.
Norfolk's playgrounds will also be reopening June 4th, and additional COVID-19 signage will be posted there as well. The Norfolk Public Library will begin a limited reopening on June 15th, and adult and youth organized sports teams will be able to hold games starting June 18th.
While the new DHMs included regulations for gatherings at swimming pools, no decision has been made regarding Norfolk's aquatics facilities at this time. City staff says an announcement will be coming in the near future, and we will continue to keep you updated as more information is learned.
