Grocery giveaway serves hundreds
Dozens of volunteers gathered in Norfolk Saturday to hand out food to those in need
NORFOLK - Diagnosing a need for hope, and prescribing a little help.
Dozens of parishioners from LifePoint Church in Norfolk gathered at Fountain Point in Norfolk on Saturday for a grocery giveaway.
Volunteers handed out bags filled with $50 worth of groceries from Lou’s Thrifty Way to those that needed it.
Organizers say cars were lined up in the Fountain Point parking lot well before the event began.
Nebraska may be getting back to normal, but residents’ need for help is still great. According to statistics released on Friday, the unemployment rate in the Norfolk area stood at 6% in April, almost twice what it was a year ago.
Luckily, the number of people in the Norfolk area willing to answer the call to help those in need is never in short supply.
Officials at Fountain Point said thanks to an anonymous donation they were able to gather enough supplies to hand out 500 bags of groceries on Saturday.
