NORFOLK - A Madison teenager is in jail after police say he fled from authorities during a traffic stop.

Norfolk Police say officers attempted a traffic stop near 8th and Pasewalk early Saturday morning on a car driven by 19-year-old Nathaniel Mahlin.

Police say he had an active Madison County arrest warrant for first degree sexual assault.

Authorities say Mahlin refused to stop and began to drive recklessly and at high speeds.

The car left the road at 12th Street and Nebraska Avenue and damaged some landscaping at a nearby house.

Police say the car then backed up, missing a patrol car and pulled to the side of the road.

Mahlin ran from the officers, who later found him hiding under a car.

He was taken into custody on the arrest warrant and arrested for motor vehicle flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and obstructing an officer.
