Norfolk clinic offering antibody test
NORFOLK - Sunny Meadow Medical Clinic in Norfolk said last Friday, it began conducting antibody tests for the coronavirus.
Dr. Kari Galyen is a family practice physician at the clinic. She said unlike other tests available, this one checks for four antigens and whether or not you're still contagious.
Galyen said that's big because knowing you're immune means you can safely return to work, and visit or care for those are vulnerable to the virus.
“Get tested and find out," Galyen said. "If you’re immune, you know, the world kind of opens back up a little bit more.”
The significance doesn't end there. She said it also helps gather data on how long your antibodies for COVID-19 last.
“Right now, it’s projected one to three years that anyone that has IGG antibodies to this virus should be okay for possibly up to three years, but there’s still that unknown factor," Galyen said. “The more information that we have, the better decisions we can make pushing forward into the future because history notoriously repeats itself, right?"
She said that information can help avoid situations like the current economic turmoil.
How does the test work? Galyen said staff would draw blood from you, send a sample to a lab, and around 48 hours later, you would have your results.
She said the test is pricey, so in order to run it through insurance, she suggested seeing their clinic so they can document your symptoms and diagnosis.
Sunny Meadow Medical Clinic said it can provide this service to anyone in the state, as long as they're willing to travel to Norfolk.
They said you're welcome to swing by in person or contact them ahead of time at (402) 370-4100 or visiting: http://www.sunnymeadowclinic.com/
