LINCOLN - Relief is coming for Nebraskans who are facing the possibility of being evicted.

Governor Pete Ricketts announced Wednesday that he's signed an executive order that will push all non-payment eviction hearings back until after May 31st.

The executive order waives a statute that requires eviction hearings to take place within a certain number of days.

"Whether you've lost your job, or maybe you've been sick, or maybe you've got kids at home so you can't go to work. So we don't want people who are being impacted by this virus being evicted," Ricketts shared.

In addition to the executive order, Ricketts said the Apartment Association of Nebraska, which represents 46,000 units, is putting a 90-day halt on all evictions due to non-payment of rent.
