Legal Organizations Ask State Debt Collections and Evictions to Halt

Seven local legal organizations are requesting a statewide halt on evictions and debt collections due to the COVID-19 emergency.

LINCOLN - Seven local legal organizations are requesting a statewide halt on evictions and debt collections due to the COVID-19 emergency.

Led by Legal Aid of Nebraska, the request calls for Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike Heavican to impose the statewide moratorium immediately.

Saying: "The sake of public health requires all to act swiftly and decisively to slow the spread of the virus, and this action is both necessary and in the broader public interest."

According to the release that came out today (Thursday), at least nine states across the country and multiple large cities have enacted similar measures.
