SIDNEY, NE - All schools in the Nebraska Panhandle will be closed for two weeks starting Monday, March 16.

The decision impacts all schools in the ESU 13 region, which covers all schools in the Nebraska Panhandle.

In a statement, Sidney Superintendent Jay Ehler says the decision was made as a precaution. Educational leaders in the area will reevaluate the decision on March 27.

According to a statement by Gordon-Rushville schools, an emergency meeting of the Panhandle Public Health District Unified Command and school superintendents was held Sunday night. The decision to close the schools was made at that meeting.

All students and staff in the area are encouraged to practice social distancing during that time frame.
