Overnight precipitation ices over eastern Nebraska
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of eastern Nebraska until noon Wednesday.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation is urging extreme caution on many eastern Nebraska highways Wednesday morning.
Overnight freezing rain has caused many roads to be completely covered by either ice or slush Wednesday morning.
The conditions have caused many school districts to either delay the start of the school day or - as in the case of the Omaha Public School District - cancel classes completely.
The weather has also delayed a number of events around the state. Governor Pete Ricketts has delayed traveling to O'Neill and Spencer Wednesday, where he was going to be honoring local fire officials for their response to another weather event - the floods of 2019.
