Winter Storm Increasing In Intensity
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Southeast Nebraska, Southwest Iowa, and Northwest Missouri
Nebraska City- A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Southeast Nebraska, Southwest Iowa, and Northwest Missouri until midnight tonight. With the snow beginning to fall in areas like Nebraska City, local schools have begun to cancel classes for the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Valley, while some areas will see significant amounts of snow, others will see greater amounts of sleet and freezing snow. In the Lincoln and Omaha areas the heaviest amounts of precipitation are expected to occur during the evening rush around 5:00pm.
In Southeast Nebraska, the bulk of the Winter Weather is expected to move through the warned area between the time of 2:00pm and 7:00pm. With the heaviest snow expected to fall in areas like Nebraska City and Red Oak, while most of the freezing rain will be further to the south in areas around Falls City.
The winds will remain strong though the evening in Southeast Nebraska gusting up to near 30-35 MPH, creating treacherous travel conditions along with dangerous wind chill values near -10 to -15 degrees. In areas where there is freezing rain coupled with the strong winds, residents are advised to remain aware of possible power outages.
