BEATRICE – Beatrice Police officers stopped a half-dozen motorists over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

And, a new voucher program being utilized by police, apparently got its share of use.

Lieutenant Jay Murphy says the voucher cards, offering a free cab ride home from a restaurant or bar, were used about 25 times Wednesday night.

Friday night, police officers also brought more of the voucher cards to one establishment, which was running low on their supply of the cards.

The program, funded through cooperation with the local MAPS coalition, offers a free cab ride home to anyone who’s had too much to drink and who shouldn’t be driving.   The goal is to offer the voucher program year-round, not just during the holidays.
