NORTH PLATTE - The Nebraska State Patrol were able to bring a low-speed pursuit to a safe conclusion Tuesday afternoon near Gothenburg on Interstate 80.

At around 3 p.m., a trooper saw a car driving at about 30 miles per hour on I-80. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the continued driving at a low speed.

Troopers pursued the vehicle, and successfully deployed spike strips.

A trooper was then able to perform tactical intervention to stop the car.

Troopers were able to take the driver into custody and discovered he was possibly experiencing a mental episode.

The driver was placed in emergency protective custody.

I-80 was closed in both directions for around 45 minutes while troopers responded to the scene.
