UPDATE: More charges for fatal crash suspect
ST LIBORY - A man accused of causing a crash that killed three people and an unborn baby is facing a new felony charge.
The Grand Island Independent reports that the Howard County Attorney filed a charge of motor vehicle homicide of an unborn child against 35-year-old Jessie Scarlett. Scarlett already faces three counts of manslaughter in a separate case.
Authorities say Scarlett ran a stop sign and crashed into a pickup on July 10th north of Grand Island. The three occupants of the pickup died, including a woman who was expecting to give birth the next day.
Court documents say Scarlett tested positive for amphetamines, opioids and marijuana two days after he was arrested.
Scarlett was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday but the hearing was postponed to August 7th.
