BEATRICE – Wymore Firefighters were sent to a South 12th Street home Tuesday night, where a stove was on fire in the kitchen of the house.

Wymore Fire Chief Mark Meints says fire trucks, an EMS unit and about ten firefighters responded to the scene at around 7:10 p.m., making entry into the home.  They found that the son of the home’s owner had used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames, which started on a stove top burner.  The youth ran to the downstairs of the home to shut off an electrical breaker, after extinguishing the flames.

Firefighters used a pressure van to clear smoke and the extinguisher chemical from the residence.

Investigation discovered that a daughter of the homeowner and a friend had been boiling water to cook something, when one of the girls accidentally cut her finger. Meints says they left to get paper towels to stop the bleeding.  When they returned, the stove was on fire. The girls dialed 9-1-1.  Shortly after, the 15-year-old son came home, ran into the house and used the fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

Smoke detectors were activated in the fire. Meints says the parents were out of town when the fire broke out.

No one was injured.  Firefighters removed the stove from the house.
