The fate of this longstanding school is still unclear, as board members have decided to table their decision yet again, until August 12, 2019.
Boone Central’s board of education President, Timothy Stopak, comments on the matter.
“It’s our job as a board to do our due diligence, to make sure that we’ve given the decision enough time so that we can make a good one.”
Emotions ran high as community members took advantage of the open forum to express their concerns surrounding the possibility of Boone Central Middle School being left vacant.
Parents communicated their worry of their young children not having their own space, as well as having to share it with high schoolers.
Multiple residents stated the school should remain for the sake of the community.
Many others asked the board for more transparency as they move forward in the process, but Stopak says that the studies and documents they have done are available to the public.
“We started this process well over a year ago, and as I stated during the meeting, the very first word that, as a board, we landed on was, ‘transparency’, so it’s very important for us. We understand that, and we will continue to make our very best effort to communicate everything that we have to the public.”
