The 16th annual Duncan ribfest is taking place Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Duncan volunteer fire department and the town’s youth wrestling club.
"It's good. We're in our 16th year and it's great to see everybody support the Duncan Volunteer Fire Department and Duncan Wrestling Club," event coordinator Gary Schlesinger said. "It's good to see this turnout, and it's been successful every year."
The event features five rib vendors from across Nebraska and multiple musical acts. For the adults, there’s also a beer garden. As Schlesinger explains, putting this event together is no easy task.
"Well it takes about a whole year's work," Schlesinger said. "About a month after it ends, you start up again. It takes 60 volunteers to make this work. If it weren't for those 60 volunteers, it probably wouldn't go on."
The threat of rain on Saturday may have deterred some, but for those who missed Saturday’s activities though, they can still make the trip out. Duncan Ribfest continues Sunday from 11 A-M to four P-M.
"Well we just hope everybody comes out and sees how much fun we're having," Schlesinger said. "We got great entertainment and this is the 16th annual and it's gonna keep on going. It's the longest-running ribfest in the state of Nebraska going on right now."
