ALBION - Albion, Nebraska is looking a little more like Hollywood these days. Okay, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but people throughout Nebraska are trying out for the opportunity to star in a short film that will be shot throughout Boone County.
The writer and director of the film is Aliza Brugger - an Albion Native who attended UNL before heading off to New York to work on her masters in film at Columbia University. Even though she left, this film was always destined for her home state.
Brugger says, “I always knew I would shoot it in Nebraska. I love shooting here… there's this fresh excitement about it.”
She even said she likes casting Nebraskans, despite a lack of experience, because the people here have the same spirit as the characters in the film.
“I grew up in a world of tough love, and I didn't realize how important that was until I moved to New York, and I think that is really where the heart of this story is from.”
The casting sessions throughout Nebraska have included tryouts for girls aged 5 to 10 years old, and women between 40 and 60 - set to play relatives in a futuristic world.
Tuesday, May 14th is the last day of casting.. the film is set to shoot in June, and will be submitted to a wide range of film festivals once it is completed next Fall..
Casting in Norfolk will be held at the Norfolk Art Center Tuesday, May 14th from 2-6 PM. It is open to everyone, regardless of previous experience.
