NORFOLK, NE (News Channel Nebraska) - Footage of the flood control shows how much extra water residents in northeast Nebraska have seen. Upon returning to their homes after evacuating, they are being urged to inspect their natural gas meters.

Black Hills Energy says if it appears flood waters reached the natural gas meter or the meter has been impacted in any way by flood waters, customers need to contact Black Hills Energy's emergency response line.

Natural gas meters and appliances submerged in flood waters must be inspected by a technician before service is restored. Customers should never attempt to turn natural gas meters off or on by themselves.

If you can smell the rotten egg-like scent of natural gas, you should leave the area immediately and call 911.
