By News Channel NebraskaCOLUMBUS - Residents in the Columbus/Platte County area will be able to utilize 211 for assistance in recovering from the flooding disaster.
211 is a free referral number for people to find help from human service agencies. In the event of local disasters, 211 activates to run 24/7, and assists in many different ways.
The Columbus Area United Way and Columbus/Platte County Emergency Management have requested assistance from the 211 call center at the United Way of the Midlands to help coordinate volunteers to help with flood recovery.
Anyone in the Columbus/Platte County area that has been affected by the flood can dial 211, or text their zip code to 898211 if they would like volunteers to help with clean-up. Staff will take your name, address, phone number, and a general idea of what you need done by volunteers.
Contact information will go to Emergency Management, who will then match those who request assistance with people on the volunteer list. Callers are being asked to let 211 know what volunteers need to bring for clean-up (rakes, shovels, gloves, etc.)
