Texas woman arrested on extradition warrant during traffic stop near Grant

A Texas woman was arrested during a traffic stop north of Grant after a Perkins County deputy discovered an active extradition warrant for drugs and assault out of Bexar County, Texas.

GRANT, Neb. — A Texas woman was arrested Saturday night after a Perkins County sheriff’s deputy discovered an outstanding extradition warrant during a traffic stop north of Grant.

According to the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducting traffic patrol on Highway 61 observed a southbound vehicle with Texas license plates traveling above the posted speed limit. The deputy initiated a traffic stop.

During the encounter, authorities determined that a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Phylicia Orta, had an active extradition warrant out of Bexar County, Texas. The warrant was for charges related to drugs and assault.

The warrant was confirmed, and Orta was taken into custody without incident.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for the traffic violation and released at the scene.

Orta was transported to the Keith County Jail, where she is being held while awaiting extradition to Texas.
