Firefighters suspect electrical overload

NEBRASKA CITY - Nebraska City Fire and Rescue extinguished a house fire at 18th Street and Second Corso Monday night.

Although electric service was not connected at the residence, a gasoline-powered generator had been used to provide electricity. Firefighters suspect an electrical overload.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Ehmke said there was some light smoke in the second story when firefighters arrived. He said after firefighters extinguished the fire it became evident that the fire had been gaining momentum.
He said it is possible firefighters would have seen flames in the second story had they arrived minutes later.

There were no injuries.
