SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Scottsbluff Rural Fire Protection District crews quickly contained a grass fire Sunday afternoon near Sugar Factory Road.

Fire officials said the department was dispatched at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 15 to a reported grass fire. The blaze was called in by multiple individuals. Five units responded to the scene, and forward progression of the fire was stopped quickly.

No injuries were reported.

In a statement, the department thanked those who stopped to assist and report the fire. Officials also reminded residents not to burn on Red Flag Warning days and to obtain and call in a burn permit when burning is allowed.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Red Flag Warning from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST Tuesday for the entire Nebraska Panhandle, southeast Wyoming and portions of northeast Colorado.

The warning includes the Nebraska Panhandle and eastern Wyoming.

Forecasters said southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph Tuesday morning will increase to west winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph by late morning and afternoon. Relative humidity is expected to range from 10 to 20 percent with poor overnight recoveries.

The highest fire threat is expected east of the Laramie Range across southeast Wyoming and into the Nebraska Panhandle. Officials said any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and outdoor burning is not recommended.
