SIDNEY, Neb. — Six members of the Sidney High School National Honor Society spent Friday morning spreading Valentine’s Day cheer at the Kid’s Korner Valentine’s Day Party at the Cheyenne County Community Center.

Valerie Fiscus, Callie Bondegard, Rylan Misegadis, Jordynn Schnell, Taylor Sprenger and Reagan Nesbitt volunteered at the Feb. 13 event, helping children create Valentine’s Day crafts and gifts.

The students assisted with making headbands and paper hearts, while spending time interacting with the children throughout the party.

“We just wanted to make an impact on these little kids’ lives and help them out,” said Bondegard, a senior and NHS member. “Everyone has to have a personal service project in NHS and they go out in the community to help somebody out. This is what we decided to do to help out in our community, because we all love kids and we wanted to see their smiling faces.”

Bondegard said the experience was meaningful for the group and reflected the service-oriented mission of the National Honor Society.

“I love hanging out with these kids,” she said. “It’s really special being part of NHS. The community is so good. It’s a really good community to be in and I recommend everyone being in NHS.”

Kimber Contratto, who worked alongside Bondegard during the event, said she was having a lot of fun as the children completed their Valentine’s Day projects.
